Will Ferrell's Eurovision Parody was Filmed in Israel

Updated: Aug 21, 2020

The new movie Fire Saga, a parody about the Eurovision Song Contest starting Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams, partly takes place in Israel.

The cast was flown in to Tel Aviv last year to film a scene on the real Eurovision stage in Tel Aviv. The contest is hosted each year by the previous year's winner; Israeli singer Netta Barzilai won the contest for Israel in 2018 with her song "Toy."

Netta has a cameo in the movie which is now streaming on Netflix (see photo).

Ferrell and McAdams play the contestants from Iceland, whose actual contestants in 2019 got themselves in some trouble for violating Eurovision's policies against politics for their Palestinian protest slogans and flags. I think most Israelis (as well as much of the rest of the world) would have preferred Ferrell and McAdams' fictitious band :).

For fans of the wacky, ostentatious, absurd, bubblegummy, kitchy, glam extravaganza that is Eurovision, as a tour guide of Israel I am happy to show you where the Eurovision Village was located as well as some neat Netta art.
