Shabbat Shalom from Israel: Please Pray for Rabbi Jonathan Sacks

Shabbat is about to come in here in Israel. To help you welcome it, I have a video here of an IDF soldier on the army base just above Rosh HaNikra on Israel's northwest most point. Just behind the base, by the armistice line with Lebanon (the "Blue Line") is the UN base where this week Israeli and Lebanese negotiators have been talking about their maritime border. The song the soldier is playing is Shalom Aleichem - "Peace onto You" - which we sing on Friday nights to begin our Sabbath meals.

While we definitely pray for peace and health for everyone in the world, especially during these difficult times, I would like to ask for your prayers for two special people. One is Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, who if you have been following my blog, I believe to be the premier Jewish ethicist and teacher of our time. Unfortunately he has just been diagnosed with cancer. His Hebrew name is HaRav Ya'akov Zvi ben Liba. If you have never read his books or watched his YouTube videos, now is a great time to start.

Also, the wife of my personal Torah teacher, Rabbi Meir Schweiger, is in the hospital in serious condition after complications during a surgery she was having. Her name is Malkah bat Chaya. For sure, some of the things I have taught you as your tour guide of Israel have come from them.
